Last updated: November 1, 2026. This used vehicle warranty policy explains how warranty terms apply to Kei trucks, JDM SUVs, golf carts and specialty utility vehicles sold by KEI Utility USA.
Most of our inventory consists of used or imported vehicles with individual histories. Two vehicles of the same year and model may have different mileage, maintenance, equipment and wear. Therefore, warranty coverage—when offered—must be stated in the specific listing or signed sales agreement rather than assumed from a general advertisement.
Used Vehicle Warranty Policy: The Basic Rule
Unless a listing or signed sales agreement expressly includes written coverage, used vehicles are sold as-is, where-is, with disclosed faults and ordinary age-related wear, to the extent permitted by applicable law. This means the buyer accepts the vehicle’s current condition after having a reasonable opportunity to review the available description, photographs, records and inspection information.
No employee, text message, advertisement or verbal conversation creates a warranty unless an authorized commitment appears in the written purchase documents. If a specific written agreement conflicts with this general policy, the specific agreement controls to the extent allowed by law.
Vehicle-Specific Limited Coverage
When a vehicle includes limited coverage, the listing or sales agreement should identify the covered components, duration, mileage limit, exclusions, claim procedure and available remedy. For example, written terms may cover only an identified component for a limited time rather than the entire vehicle.
Limited coverage does not automatically mean every repair will be paid in full. A claim may require diagnosis, photographs, maintenance records or preauthorization. The written terms will determine whether the remedy is repair, replacement of an eligible part, reimbursement up to a stated limit or another solution.
What Is Not Automatically Covered
Unless expressly included in writing, coverage does not include:
- Routine maintenance, fluids, filters, tune-ups or adjustments.
- Tires, batteries, belts, hoses, bulbs, glass or upholstery.
- Cosmetic marks, fading, dents, surface corrosion or ordinary wear.
- Conditions disclosed before purchase or visible during inspection.
- Damage from misuse, overloading, racing, overheating or improper towing.
- Off-road damage, water intrusion, collision or environmental exposure.
- Unauthorized modifications, lift kits, wiring changes or accessory installation.
- Repairs performed without required diagnosis or prior authorization.
- Registration eligibility, road-use restrictions or changes in state law.
Because many Japanese imports are more than 25 years old, age-related maintenance should be expected even when the vehicle is operating properly at the time of sale. Our Vehicle Condition & Import Disclosure explains these expectations in greater detail.
Pre-Purchase Inspection Is Strongly Encouraged
A careful inspection is the best way to understand a used vehicle before purchase. Buyers may request available photographs, video, condition notes and documentation. When practical, buyers may also arrange an independent inspection or schedule an appointment at our Austin location.
An inspection can identify visible wear, fluid leaks, tire condition, accessory operation and other matters relevant to the buyer. However, no inspection can guarantee that an older vehicle will never require repair. Review our Vehicle Inspections, Test Drives & Appointments page and Inspection & Condition Grading Standards.
What to Do if a Problem Develops
If a significant concern develops after purchase, stop operating the vehicle when continued use could create a safety risk or cause additional damage. Then contact us promptly with:
- The buyer’s name and transaction reference.
- The vehicle year, make, model, VIN or stock number.
- The current mileage and date the concern began.
- Clear photographs or video when relevant.
- A written diagnostic report or repair estimate, if available.
- Maintenance or service records connected with the concern.
Do not authorize major repairs, disassembly or disposal of affected parts until any written-coverage procedure has been reviewed, unless emergency action is reasonably necessary for safety. Unauthorized work may prevent us or a third party from confirming the cause and original condition.
How Warranty Claims Are Reviewed
First, we confirm whether written coverage applies to the vehicle and the reported component. Next, we compare the concern with the listing, disclosures, inspection records and purchase documents. When necessary, we may request an independent diagnosis or an opportunity to inspect the vehicle.
Acknowledging a request is not the same as approving a claim. Approval depends on the written terms, evidence, timing, maintenance and cause of failure. If coverage applies, we will explain the authorized next step in writing.
Parts, Accessories and Manufacturer Warranties
A new part or accessory may carry a manufacturer warranty. That warranty is provided by the manufacturer or distributor and remains subject to its registration, installation, claim and exclusion terms. KEI Utility USA will provide available proof of purchase reasonably needed for an eligible manufacturer claim, but we do not control a manufacturer’s final decision.
Delivery Damage Is Handled Separately
Damage occurring during third-party transport is not automatically a mechanical warranty claim. At delivery, inspect the vehicle, photograph visible damage and note it on the bill of lading before signing whenever possible. Our Nationwide Vehicle Delivery Policy explains the documentation and carrier-claim process.
Returns, Refunds and Warranty Coverage
A warranty request and a return request are different. A repairable concern does not automatically require cancellation or a full refund. Likewise, an as-is sale does not excuse a material misdescription. Review our Vehicle Returns, Refunds & Cancellations Policy for the separate rules that apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do all used Kei trucks come with a warranty?
No. Coverage applies only when it is expressly stated in the vehicle listing or signed agreement. Otherwise, the vehicle is generally sold as-is to the extent permitted by law.
Does as-is mean KEI Utility USA can misdescribe a vehicle?
No. An as-is term addresses condition and future repair risk; it does not permit a seller to knowingly misrepresent a material fact or ignore rights that cannot legally be waived.
Can I use my own mechanic?
Yes, buyers may request an independent pre-purchase inspection. For a post-purchase claim, obtain authorization before major work if the written coverage requires it.
Are batteries and tires covered?
Not unless the specific written warranty says so. These are commonly treated as wear or service items.
